RICKARD & JUVELERNA

Gothenburg Indie

In the 1990s, a rather unique style of indie pop emerged in Gothenburg, Sweden, with artists such as Håkan Hellström, Broder Daniel, and Soundtrack of Our Lives shaping the sound.

Rickard, who writes all the songs and essentially is Rickard & Juvelerna, was formed in that very scene. Back then, he was the frontman of the band Waterbug, which gained some success during the 1990s before splitting up in the early 2000s.

After a short break, Rickard started the band Rickard & Juvelerna, released albums, and toured along the west coast of Sweden for a few years before the band eventually dissolved.

When the pandemic hit, Rickard reached out to me wanting to record and release a song he had written. One thing led to another, and now parts of the old band have reunited. Along with some new members, we’ve released several singles and performed at venues including the legendary Slussens Pensionat.

On November 8 last year, we released our latest single – Som kärlek är (The Way Love Is). We’re continuing to explore the Nordic melancholy and darkness — ”Nordic noir,” as one of our Norwegian fans called it.
